Information needs are always very personal. We know that research shows that giving patients the information they need at a time when they need it can significantly reduce anxiety levels, increase their feeling of control and help their treatment and recovery process. The aim of the Centre is to complement the information given by the clinical teams and to offer a wide choice of information for patients and their loved ones. Ensuring you can access information that is both relevant and of good quality at a time that best suits you is important to us.

The Big C Centre library stocks a vast range of accurate, up to date and relevant information on the following:

  • Types of Cancer
  • Cancer Treatments
  • Local and National sources of support
  • Complementary Care
  • Finance
  • Travel
  • Diet
  • Relaxation
  • Hair Loss
  • Symptom Control
  • Talking to Children
  • Emotional Issues
  • Sexual Issues
  • Carers Issues
  • Hospice Care
  • Death & Dying
  • Bereavement

Information is held in various formats: leaflets, booklets, books, videos, DVDs and tapes. These can be taken away so that you can look at them in your own time at home. Alternatively you are very welcome to sit in the peace and quiet of the centre and read through the information.

The Centre also has two computers so that you can access the internet for cancer information.

There is always a member of staff available to help you find the information you are looking for – alternatively please feel free to browse on your own.
